ABOUT LYRIC OPERA SAN DIEGO
Lyric Opera San Diego has been bringing accessible, affordable opera and musical theatre productions to San Diego since 1979. The company proudly performs operas and musicals from the European and American tradition, in English, presenting the finest young musical talent available with full orchestra and chorus accompaniment. All regular shows are staged with chorus and orchestra. Performances are at the newly restored, historic Stephen and Mary Birch North Park Theatre at University Avenue and 29th Street in North Park.

Lyric Opera San Diego’s Outreach Department presents preview performances to students and social service organizations throughout San Diego County. Insight lectures about the productions are offered prior to all regularly scheduled performances.

Lyric Opera is locally recognized as the company for developing professional artists. The company’s mission is to create a vehicle wherein young professionals can hone their craft working alongside established artists. Many of the company’s alumni have gone on to major roles with such prestigious companies as New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Opera Pacific, Opera Company of Philadelphia and Seattle Opera. They also are appearing on Broadway and on national and European tours. Lyric Opera’s productions are reviewed locally, nationally (Sunset magazine) and internationally (Opera Japonica, Opera Actual, Pro Opera).
